From a pure logical point of view, based on intuition, computers are organically advancing at a rapid pace.

Now’s the time to start thinking about the next 5 to 10 years. A new technological revolution that will disrupt our lives like never before. This is the impact of artificial intelligence on the roots of our society.

“What's basically happening is computers are going from being like Spock to being a lot more like Kirk.

Now’s the time to start thinking about the next 5 to 10 years. A new technological revolution that will disrupt our lives like never before. This is the impact of artificial intelligence on the roots of our society.

Thanks to Hollywood, we’ve learned to fear artificial intelligence or AI for short and what it means for human progression as a species. Futuristic movies with artificial intelligence as the main theme often portray mass conflict or an apocalyptic ending. Fortunately, there is actually proof that says the otherwise. As weird as it sounds, AI will not try to erase humanity from the face of the planet. It is all the opposite. AI will do its own thing if we let it. We can learn from AlphaGo, the Google Deepmind program designed to play the ancient game of Go. It has beaten several notable top-ranked Go players and was even awarded an honorary rank for the highest possible ranking.

It's all about the context.

GO has evolved into a very competitive and complicated game of mental warfare, a simulation of conflict, hostage taking, and tactical development in its purest form. The beauty of what AlphaGo has done is how it was able to accomplish its feats ( I’m not calling it he/she yet). It used common Go techniques in its own intuitive way, taking methodology and mathematics and applying both to break contemporary trends with a single objective: to win.

Intuition, creativity and strategic thinking are the goals.

In order for AI to be a part of our life and seamlessly blend into all aspects of society, we need to stop thinking about AI as a vessel that serves us. Instead, we need to start thinking on the endless possibilities of collaboration and integration. Some examples of integration today are products such as ALEXA, GOOGLE Assistant, and CORTANA. Although these are the first public attempts on widespread human/AI  interactions, they are still very powerful tools and magnificent products of thousands, if not millions of lines of code. The next generation of IoT devices and AI applications will probably be a lot closer to the AI portrayed in sci-fi movies and TV shows of today.

Some things that we can expect from AI in the coming 10 years might be:

  • Hierarchical planning
  • Hierarchical reinforcement learning
  • Creating new jobs that don’t exist yet
  • Blending with our everyday life
  • Automated intelligence: automation of manual/cognitive and routine/non-routine tasks
  • Helping people perform tasks better and more efficiently

In the end, AI will be at our doorsteps no matter what we do. It is in human nature to constantly push for innovation, and the thrill of creation will bring life to unique forms of intelligence. The problem with adventures is the unpredictability. It is a bit, terrifying if you think about it. However, the main motive is growth, and it’s the kind of growth that we as human beings need to prosper into a new dawn.
